Legal Counsel Opportunity at Digital Waters

Digital Waters, a pioneering non-profit organization, is seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to ensure our operations align with the legal framework and protect our mission. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding our organization's growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including environmental laws, labor laws, and non-profit regulations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to protect the organization from legal risks and liabilities.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements, including employment contracts, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, and volunteer agreements.
  • Create and update organizational policies, terms, and conditions to ensure legal compliance and protection.
  • Oversee and manage any litigation or legal disputes involving the organization.
  • Provide legal advice to the board of directors, executive team, and other stakeholders on various legal matters.
  • Educate staff and volunteers on legal compliance and risk management practices.
  • Develop protocols for responding to legal incidents and managing potential liabilities related to the deployment of monitoring devices or volunteers in public waterways.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal practice, with a focus on non-profit organizations, environmental law, or a related field.
  • Licensed to practice law in Ontario, Canada.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit and environmental law.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise legal advice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with risk management and compliance strategies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
