Digital Waters, a pioneering non-profit organization, is seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to ensure our operations align with the legal framework and protect our mission. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding our organization's growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including environmental laws, labor laws, and non-profit regulations.
- Develop and implement strategies to protect the organization from legal risks and liabilities.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements, including employment contracts, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, and volunteer agreements.
- Create and update organizational policies, terms, and conditions to ensure legal compliance and protection.
- Oversee and manage any litigation or legal disputes involving the organization.
- Provide legal advice to the board of directors, executive team, and other stakeholders on various legal matters.
- Educate staff and volunteers on legal compliance and risk management practices.
- Develop protocols for responding to legal incidents and managing potential liabilities related to the deployment of monitoring devices or volunteers in public waterways.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal practice, with a focus on non-profit organizations, environmental law, or a related field.
- Licensed to practice law in Ontario, Canada.
- Strong understanding of non-profit and environmental law.
- Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
- Ability to provide clear and concise legal advice.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with risk management and compliance strategies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
