Qualifications and Experience


Please clearly demonstrate your qualifications and experience related to the following criteria:



  • Completion of a Yukon Native Language Centre certification/diploma program or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated language proficiency (read, write and speak) or a desire to learn Southern Tutchone language to deliver the program;
  • Demonstrated and ongoing commitment to improve language proficiency;
  • Extensive knowledge and awareness of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwach'an Council worldview, traditional practices, values and beliefs, as well as a good understanding of past and current issues in education, heritage and languages with a view to the past, present and future.

NOTE: Candidates who have education, training and/or experience equivalent to the education criteria listed above will be equally considered.


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability



  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain an authentic relationship with the Kwanlin Dün and Ta'an Kwach'an Council, community members, community Elders, and families, promoting greater community involvement in school-based activities and educational programming;
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate outdoor-experiential/land-based learning in teaching practice;
  • Solid understanding of a philosophy of inclusive education, excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills working with parents, staff members, coaches, the First Nation School Board and other partners;
  • Demonstrated ability to implement restorative practice and positive behavioral interventions and supports;
  • Demonstrated ability to implement effective support systems to assist at-risk students (e.g., mentorship opportunities, study groups);
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and analyze in the integration of project-based learning to support curriculum outcomes;
  • Strong understanding and experience with implementing on-the-land curriculum;
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to implement, the science of reading approaches to literacy;
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to implement, developmentally responsive approaches;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents and caregivers, establishing cooperative and authentic connections to support the best school experience possible;
  • Desire and passion for developing and maintaining strong and respectful relationships and trust with students, their families, and the community as a whole.

Additional Information


Preference will be given to Southern Tutchone language qualified citizens of the Kwanlin Dün and Ta'an Kwach'an First Nations.
