Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Railcar Mechanic to join our team at our Red Deer facility. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for performing various repairs on railcars, including inspection, welding, and assembling parts, as well as improving and replacing defective components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply current repair procedures to dismantle, repair, install, and/or renew coil, valves, and miscellaneous tank car fittings.
  • Prepare equipment and surfaces for welding: weld, burn, fit, and tack as necessary to complete repairs.
  • Locate and test areas to be welded for leaks using soap suds and air.
  • Operate equipment such as chains, slings, hoists, and forklifts to perform assigned tasks.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Work safely in confined spaces and at heights.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and relevant experience in railcar repair and maintenance.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as repair manuals, instructions, and work orders.
  • A strong work ethic, with the ability to work effectively individually and in groups.
  • Initiative and personal motivation to determine and carry out important tasks.

Work Environment

This position requires working in a fast-paced industrial environment, with regular exposure to noise, dust, and extreme temperatures. You must be able to stoop for extended periods, move from kneeling to standing positions, lift up to 85 pounds, push/pull up to 140 pounds, and climb ladders.
