With a strong commitment to innovation and excellence, we are expanding our food chemistry capabilities and seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Food Chemistry Laboratory Specialist.
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and validating methods, participating in accreditation assessments, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the food chemistry laboratory. This position requires a strong background in food chemistry, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to drive continuous improvement and optimization of laboratory processes.
Responsibilities:
Lab Organization:
- Plan, coordinate, and implement food chemistry laboratory setup as per ISO 17025 requirements.
- Assist with the purchase of equipment and materials for lab activities and ensure budget goals are met.
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain, troubleshoot instruments. Implement and manage preventative maintenance and analyst training program for laboratory instruments
- Recruit, train, and supervise lab technicians. Ensure that the lab team follows industry standards and safety regulations for handling and disposing test samples.
- Provide guidance and support to team members in instrument analysis and troubleshooting.
- Foster a lab culture of excellence and teamwork.
- Develop, validate, and document Standard Operating Procedures for food chemistry testing.
- Must possess effective problem-solving skills to optimize the use of resources and handle any issues that may arise.
- Stay abreast of food industry trends and advancements to implement best lab practices in the lab.
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and precision of test results.
- Monitor and address any deviations from established standards.
- Perform nonconformance investigation and provide responses to Quality Assurance Department.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Customer Services, Business Development, R&D, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory Affairs.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical and instrumental support to operations.
- Master's Degree in Science or equivalent experience is required.
- 5+ years hands-on food laboratory experience.
- Experience with GC-FID, HPLC, and ICPMS instrumentation.
- Ability to problem solve, coach, organize.
- Experience with method development and method validation procedures.
- Knowledge of CFIA inspections and audits.
- Knowledge of full laboratory processes.
- Advanced Computer Skills.
- Ability to work in a positive manner in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
This position requires a person to stand, sit, and lift throughout the shift in a laboratory environment. Manual dexterity is required to perform repetitive tasks. PPE is required where applicable.
