About the Position:

This role requires a skilled Senior Mechanical Designer who can lead the development of innovative and sustainable energy systems and high-performance buildings. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a diverse team of individuals to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations using industry-standard software.
  • Prepare mechanical and plumbing schematic design layouts and final designs.
  • Create and maintain mechanical equipment schedules and motor lists.
  • Review and prepare mechanical specifications.
  • Coordinate mechanical requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team.
  • Direct and supervise Junior and Intermediate Designers within your team to ensure the delivery of quality projects.
  • Coordinate or confirm service requirements/connections with the respective utility and/or municipal agencies.
  • Assist with fee proposal preparation.
  • Maintain good client relations.

Requirements:

  • Able to read Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Able to apply prescriptive requirements of plumbing, building, and sprinkler codes.
  • Experience with schematic design, equipment selection, and 2D AutoCAD and 3D Revit.
  • Basic understanding of global sustainability issues and current best practices in sustainable building design.
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks, such as Passive House, Zero Carbon Building, LEED.
  • Experience performing accurate and detailed site surveys.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond systematically to critical situations.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years design experience in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
  • University degree, college/technology diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.) are highly preferred.
  • LEED or Passive House Accreditation is an asset.
  • Experience in Passive House, Aquatics, or District Energy projects is an asset.
