Job Summary:

Ultra Electronics Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager Systems Engineering to lead our Systems Engineering team in Canada. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for managing and developing Systems Engineers to ensure the business has the skills, processes, and headcount to deliver its strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Systems Engineering function across Ultra Electronics Group Canada to ensure it has the capability and capacity to meet the current and future demand of the business.
  • Work with Engineering and Project Managers to ensure that the demand is defined, managed, and accommodated.
  • Develop and implement appropriate process and procedure improvements to meet current and emergent engineering requirements in-line with the business strategic vision and Systems Engineering best practices.
  • Cooperate with Chief Engineers, Engineering Managers, and Project Managers in the provision of technical infrastructure, including engineering facilities and tools, required by the Systems Engineering team across all projects.
  • Recruit and manage Systems Engineers to support the short-, medium-, and long-term requirements of bids, projects, and the business.
  • Identify, plan, develop, and manage training for Systems Engineers to ensure that skills and qualifications are appropriate for current and future business needs.
  • Ensure that suitable performance management, mentoring, and coaching is carried out throughout the Systems Engineering team to support staff development and retention.
  • Develop and manage succession plans for the Systems Engineering team.
  • Work alongside projects to provide support to ensure delivery milestones are hit.
  • Provide and review plans and estimates for bids and projects.
  • Promote positive behaviors, Ultra Electronics Group values, and a positive vision of the company to the Systems Engineering team.

Requirements:

  • Experience leading Systems Engineering teams.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and formal processes preferably in the defense sector.
  • Experience dealing with a wide range of stakeholders including senior management.
  • Experience across the whole project lifecycle, from bids and proposals through to in-service support.
  • Degree level (or equivalent experience) in the Systems Engineering discipline.
  • Use of standard office tools and experience of engineering tools such as DOORS, UML tools, ERPs, and Configuration Management tools.
