Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Pathology Assistant to join our dynamic Histology team in Brampton, Ontario. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing gross examinations of surgical specimens, selecting, dissecting, and preparing tissue sections for further processing and examination. You will also be required to provide accurate and efficient gross descriptions and document findings in accordance with laboratory manuals, procedures, and protocols. In addition, you will review clinical history provided and use positive patient identification to ensure that all requisitions and worksheets, specimens, and portions are traceable.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:
  • A strong foundation in Histology, Medical Terminology, Gross Anatomy, and Dissection Techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microanatomy and a Graduate of an approved Laboratory Sciences program or equivalent.
  • Proven excellence working in a team environment, with strong interpersonal and communication skills and professionalism.
  • CAP certification is beneficial.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to prioritize specimens for processing.

Working Conditions

This is a medical laboratory environment that requires standing/sitting positions with repetitive fine motor movement of hands. You will need to perform duties independently or as a team member with a high degree of motivation. Long periods of concentration are required, and exposure to biohazard materials and noise is possible.
