About the Opportunity

The University of Toronto's Faculty of Law is seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Associate to join the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights. This is a two-year term position that will provide legal research and advocacy support to the Centre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct constitutional rights research related to Asper Centre projects, particularly in the areas of constitutional litigation, positive rights under the Charter, and experiential education.
  • Research, draft, and edit policy papers, advocacy materials, legal submissions, and reports on constitutional rights issues.
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies.
  • Assist with the research, development, and supervision of Asper Centre clinic projects.
  • Liaise with various stakeholders, including community partners.
Qualifications
  • Must possess an LLB or JD (LLM would be considered an asset).
  • Minimum two (2) years' work experience directly related to constitutional rights research and advocacy, including legislative advocacy.
  • Experience in constitutional rights advocacy and litigation (experience clerking with an appellate court would be considered an asset).
Skills
  • Strong legal research skills.
  • Excellent writing skills and excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel).
Other Requirements
  • Highly motivated and organized; ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated excellent judgement, problem solving skills, and initiative.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
