Sledgehammer Games, a leading developer in the video game industry, is seeking a talented Lead Systems Designer to join its Toronto team. As a key member of the studio, you will partner closely with teams in the United States and Australia to create epic content for some of the biggest games in the world.

We are looking for a skilled professional with a strong background in game design, who can interpret high-level vision into clear guidance for the team. You will be responsible for managing a team of designers, improving processes and workflows, and striving for deep systems design that elevates the gameplay experience.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement player-first experiences that will be enjoyed by millions of gamers.
  2. Manage a team of designers and help to improve processes and workflows for systems design.
  3. Work with user research during playtests to identify iterative improvements and changes.
  4. Build effective working relationships with key creative and production collaborators across SHG.
  5. Open to working in / relocating to Toronto.

Requirements:

  1. 8+ years of industry experience working in the field of systems design on AAA titles.
  2. 2+ years of experience as a lead systems designer, with at least one shipped title in this position.
  3. Expansive knowledge of game design with appreciation and understanding for other fields.
  4. Ability to pitch concepts clearly and concisely, and which demonstrate critical thinking.
  5. Experience working with proprietary engines and toolsets including Unreal.
  6. Strong understanding of First-Person gameplay experiences including gameplay mechanics, feel, and feedback.
  7. Great technical skills and solid scripting/coding experience.
  8. Strong problem-solving skills.
  9. Hunger for gaming with a broad range of game experience.
  10. An analytical approach and the ability to break down complex problems into consumable and relevant pieces for others.
  11. Experience taking major AAA console and PC games from concept to completion.
  12. Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
