Physician Associate

As a Physician Associate at Interior Health Authority, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a team-based environment. Working under the supervision of an Attending Physician, you will serve as a physician extender, supporting the provision of continuous care to inpatients in collaboration with the Hospitalist service at Royal Inland Hospital.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in patient rounds under the supervision of the attending, along with residents, nurse practitioners, students, and other care team members.
- Provide day-to-day care of patients, including writing orders, requesting consultations, and responding to patient care queries in consultation with the supervisor.
- Perform history and physical exams with documentation, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Provide consults from ER or any subspecialty services in RIH under the supervision of the supervisor.
- Develop treatment plans for patients under supervision.
- Follow up on investigations and prescribe treatment under supervision.
- Communicate and respond to calls from allied health care staff in a timely manner.
- Communicate with patients and families and other care providers as appropriate.
- Perform procedures within the scope of their demonstrated competence, including phlebotomy, assessment of surgical wounds, removal of chest tubes, and more.
- Eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia in the Associate Physician class, under sponsorship of IHA.
- Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage common medical problems in the medical and perioperative patient.
- Excellent English communication skills, including with patients, families, and other health care professionals.
- Computer and written communication skills, including order entry, clinical documentation, and ability to review relevant diagnostic information and health history.
