Job Summary
The Road Foreman is responsible for overseeing safe and productive field operations, managing work to increase revenue and reduce costs within the assigned area. This role involves planning and logistics of all projects, including coordinating with sub-contractors and vendors, scheduling and compliance, inspections, and equipment and materials required.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive environment
- Holds each team member accountable for their own results through ongoing performance management, providing feedback, recognition, and development opportunities
- Under the direction of the Superintendent and with HR support, participates in recruiting and selecting new team members
- Leds safety efforts by conducting inspections, reporting incidents, facilitating orientations, and holding toolbox meetings
- Ensures staff respond as required to emergency situations: weather-related, wildlife, accidents, etc., as defined by contract provisions and relevant MoTT Maintenance Specifications
- Performs road checks and actively identify any situation requiring maintenance or incident reporting
- Understands and ensures compliance with basic labour laws, applicable specifications, and organizational policies
- Understands and applies performance standards, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control requirements for all highway maintenance activities
- Plans and schedules work and bundles groups of associated activities for optimal efficiency
- Ensures work plans are appropriately communicated and understood
- Inspects, maintains, and operates equipment to Company standards and promptly reports any issues
- Ensures vehicles, equipment, facilities, yards, and keys are secured as per company standards and policy daily
- Ensures maintenance facilities are well maintained and properly stocked with necessary supplies
- Tracks and maintains records for supply inventory, yard inventory, and external materials
- Directs the mobilization and demobilization of crews and equipment
- Understands productivity rates and works with crews to achieve the required outcomes
Requirements
- 2+ years of supervisory experience as Road Lead hand, with heavy machine operator experience
- Valid BC Class 3 or Class 5 license with a Driver's Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
- Resides within 30 kilometers of the assigned shop
