Environmental Compliance Specialist

Job Summary
Newmont Inc. is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team in Chapleau, ON. As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance of all Porcupine property through sampling, monitoring, and inspections of operations, as well as assistance with required government reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily and weekly visual inspections of operations, recording water levels, compliance samples, and monitoring dam integrities.
- Assist with drone flight programs and ensure the air, surface water, and groundwater monitoring programs are completed in an organized and timely fashion.
- Maintain real-time cloud-based monitoring data and operability.
- Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for mine site, government, and corporate office.
- Assist in updating all internet-based compliance databases and managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste for disposal on and off Newmont Porcupine sites.
- Support the development of sampling programs and schedules, maintain proper logs of field data, and prepare data for database entry.
- Assist in environmental training for all staff and contractors and support biodiversity and wildlife management initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Environmental Science or Diploma in Environmental Technology field.
- 1-2 years in the mining industry or related experience with comprehensive exposure to sampling, monitoring, and compliance issues.
- Effective communication and organization skills.
- Ability to interact with internal staff and manage a wide variety of projects and timelines to meet tight time restraints.
- Valid G driver's license and Pleasure Craft Operator Card.
- Familiarity with Site Scan, MonitorPro, and Enablon are assets.
Working Conditions
- This position is a site-based role in Chapleau, ON, with a 4 days on, 3 days off or 5 days on, 2 days off schedule.
- Participation in emergency/spill on-call schedule is mandatory for this position.
- Must be willing to obtain an advanced pilot license for the operation of drones.
- Sampling programs encompass a large physical area in the vicinity of the operation, requiring significant travel time.
