Substation High Voltage Electrical Engineer

MCW Group of Companies is seeking a skilled Substation High Voltage Electrical Engineer to join our team in Winnipeg. As a key member of the AGE Power team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing electrical substation, commercial, and industrial high voltage projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement electrical substation systems, including grounding studies and designs using CDEGS software.
  • Conduct field measurements for input into grounding studies, including soil resistivity measurements and fall-of-potential measurements.
  • Develop protection and control design implementation, including schematic design, wiring design, panel and control building layouts, cable schedules, and bills of materials.
  • Design switchyard equipment, considering required clearances and connections, including station layouts, sections, details, cable schedules, and bills of materials.
  • Perform arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies using eTAP and Easy Power software.
  • Design high voltage services and systems for industrial and commercial facilities, including medium/high voltage emergency power designs, utility coordination, feeder specification, routing, and duct bank design.
  • Collaborate with project teams and project managers to ensure on-time project completion.
  • Communicate with clients and contractors, responding to technical inquiries as required.
  • Provide technical and administrative support throughout project phases.
  • Establish and promote client relationships.
  • Coordinate with internal production teams.
  • Ensure quality and timely delivery of finished products to clients.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from a Canadian institution or recognized by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). Specialization in electrical power systems is an asset.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience as a professional engineer or engineer in training, with a minimum of 2 years as a professional engineer.
  • Membership or eligibility for EGM membership.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with customers and clients is an asset.

Required Skills and Technical Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, CDEGS, eTAP, and/or Easy Power is considered an asset.
  • Experience performing grounding system impedance measurements and/or soil resistivity measurements is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Codes and National Codes of Canada is considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and complete deliverables successfully.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Analytical, thorough, resourceful, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, team members, and other departments in a positive and congenial manner.
