Electrical Safety Officer - Electrical

The City of Calgary is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Safety Officer to join our team. As an Electrical Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our community by enforcing electrical codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough inspections of electrical installations to ensure compliance with electrical codes and regulations.
  • Review and process electrical permits to ensure that all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Enforce electrical codes and regulations by issuing notices and conducting follow-up inspections as necessary.
  • Provide technical assistance to the public, building owners, contractors, and tradespeople on electrical code-related matters.
  • Collaborate with other City departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to electrical safety.
Qualifications:
  • A completed Journeyperson Electrician certificate or equivalent recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training and at least 6 years of electrical field experience; OR
  • A completed Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma and at least 8 years of related experience; OR
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 8 years of related experience.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Previous electrical construction experience working with on-site wiring on residential, multi-family, commercial, and industrial installations is required.
  • Experience as a Group A Safety Codes Officer (SCO) - Electrical and/or an Electrical Master's certificate is an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and effective decision-making skills.
  • Maintain a high attention to detail when handling an increased workload with changing priorities.
