- Prescription and Treatment: Prescribe and administer medications and treatments as necessary, and provide patients with clear instructions on their care.
- Health Education: Advise patients on healthy lifestyle choices, disease prevention, and management of chronic conditions.
- Coordination of Care: Coordinate and manage primary patient care, including referrals to specialists and other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Consultation and Collaboration: Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' health and provide comprehensive care.
- Education: A degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry is required.
- Certifications: College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP), Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC), and licensure by provincial or territorial authorities are required.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in family medicine is preferred.
