Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Academic Instructor to teach a course in Computer Science at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and demonstrated expertise in the topic area of the course.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures in-person on campus as scheduled
  • Maintain course administration, including course website, marking schemes, lectures, tutorials, assignments, tests, and final assessments
  • Provide appropriate contact time outside of class to students, through office hours, email, the course website, and/or the course bulletin board
  • Prepare the breakdown of hours for TA duties in the course and supervise the TAs
  • Ensure that tutorials and/or labs are delivered appropriately by the TAs
  • Manage the grading for the course, which is largely done by the TAs, and carry out any grading not handled by the TAs
  • Invigilate the final exam if applicable
  • Coordinate with other instructors to maintain consistency, including using common assignments and a common final exam
  • Manage the grades and submit final course grades, including the timely completion and release of grades and feedback to students throughout the term

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in the topic area of the course
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Teaching experience at the university level or equivalent industry level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience teaching undergraduate courses in the field of Computer Science
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching
