Job Description:

This role is responsible for performing specific dispensing functions as outlined by provincial regulations and standards of practice. Reporting to the Store Operator/Pharmacy Manager, and under the supervision of a pharmacist, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Receiving written prescriptions from customers
  • Locating medication, selecting prescription containers, and counting/pouring medication
  • Attaching labels to prescription containers
  • Ensuring original containers, prescription container contents, and labels are checked and initialled by the pharmacist
  • Phoning customers for unclaimed prescriptions

Additional Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will also be responsible for:

  • Keeping all areas of the pharmacy clean, neat, and professional
  • Maintaining adequate stock of pharmacy supplies
  • Answering the pharmacy telephone, except for the doctor's line, which should be answered by a pharmacist
  • Assisting with third-party billing
  • Setting up a schedule for outdated pharmaceuticals
  • Assisting with inventory control
  • Assisting with checking off and putting away pharmaceutical orders
  • Maintaining stocks of pamphlets/consumer information
  • Maintaining OTC/non-prescription sections, as designated

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Pharmacy Assistant experience (1 year preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and have experience multi-tasking
  • Professional attitude and ability to communicate well with customers and co-workers
