Pharmacy Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our automated pharmacy dispensing systems.
Your primary responsibilities will include monitoring the proper functionality and use of the system, overseeing user access control, providing user support, coordinating maintenance activities, and troubleshooting issues. You will also be responsible for advising management on system needs and requirements for resource support.
Key duties include:
- Assisting pharmacists, PPAs, nursing, and other staff in the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the automated medication distribution process.
- Coordinating setup, new builds, installations, and expansions of hardware and software.
- Performing physical inspections, troubleshooting, and coordinating repairs or upgrades of equipment.
- Regularly reviewing inventory of units with drug utilization review and inventory optimization.
- Managing the user database, including addition and removal of user accounts.
- Establishing, reviewing, and overseeing distribution of required reports.
- Coordinating audits, including those related to med safety standards and proactive diversion activities.
- Developing the training program for Pharmacy staff, both for new staff and re-certification of current staff.
- Collaborating with partners to support the development of required training for other disciplines.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in pharmacy operations and a passion for working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have:
- Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
- Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required.
- Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
- Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset.
- Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control, and record keeping.
- Demonstrated good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications.
- Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs.
- Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
Permanent, Full-Time; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and BenefitsRegistered Technician: $27.89 Hourly
(Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $26.27)
