Job Summary

The Personal Support Worker provides personalized support and homemaking services to clients and families within the framework of VON Canada's policies, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of clients' homes, personal situations, and care plans to identify areas for improvement and ensure their needs are met.
  • Collaborate with the Personal Support Program Manager to develop and implement personalized care plans that meet clients' unique needs.
  • Provide personal support tasks, including light cleaning, meal preparation, and household safety monitoring, as required.
  • Assist clients with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, and eating, under the guidance of the Personal Support Program Manager or immediate supervisor.
  • Provide respite care and support to clients' families as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports to ensure effective service delivery and quality improvement.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CCA Certification or equivalent in Nova Scotia.
  • Must have a certificate in Home Support Worker (Level I, II, III), Personal Support Worker program, or Health Care Aide.
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate, if applicable to the work being performed.
  • Some household management experience and experience working with elderly or ill individuals or children.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team or independently as required.
  • Good assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Awareness of community resources and ability to connect clients with relevant services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to strict confidentiality standards.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
