Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel - Environmental Expert

Domtar Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel - Environmental Expert to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will provide expert legal counsel on environmental matters, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex permitting efforts, forming teams of functional and operational experts, developing permitting strategies, and directing their execution.
  • Identify emerging new laws and regulations, assessing their impacts on the company and the environment.
  • Lead advocacy efforts on proposed regulatory developments, including drafting official comments on behalf of the company.
  • Conduct internal investigations into allegations of non-compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • Respond to formal and informal notices of non-compliance received from regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in global ESG audit programs.
  • Provide legal services and support with procurement/sales matters, including the drafting, negotiation, and revising of sales/supply agreements.
  • Manage litigation matters, including managing external counsel.

Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited law school and admitted to a provincial/state bar.
  • Minimum of 3-7 years of legal experience with environmental and manufacturing matters.
  • Bilingual (French & English).
  • Very strong oral and written skills.
  • Has relevant junior associate experience with a law firm.
  • Prior in-house experience in or related to the pulp and paper industry is a plus.
