Baker Tilly is a leading association of Chartered Professional Accounting firms in Canada. We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant to join our team in Hearst, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements for clients in various businesses and non-profit enterprises.
  • Examine and analyze client accounting and financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards.
  • Prepare tax returns, including T1, T2s, T3s, T4s, T5s, and GST/HST.
  • Participate in special projects assigned by partner, manager, or senior staff.
  • Provide bookkeeping services from client-supplied records.
  • Prepare payroll and related filings.
  • Prepare HST returns.
  • Offer assistance and support to clients on bookkeeping and software issues.
  • Identify opportunities to up-sell or cross-sell products or services.
  • Develop and maintain a meaningful working relationship with clients.

Requirements:

  • A college or university degree in accounting and/or prior accounting/bookkeeping experience.
  • A working knowledge of business software applications, including Word, Excel, Sage, QuickBooks, and tax/payroll software.
  • Previous use of Profile and Caseware would be an asset.
  • A sound knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards, income tax, payroll tax, and HST.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet required deadlines.
  • A strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Fluently bilingual in both French and English would be an asset.
  • A highly motivated, self-starter with demonstrated independence and initiative.
