Thermal Stress Engineer Position in Nuclear Industry

BWX Technologies, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Thermal Stress Engineer to join our team in Cambridge, Ontario.

Job Summary:

This role involves performing structural qualification of steam generators, heat exchangers, process vessels and piping assemblies for new equipment supply or in support of field services. The successful candidate will possess expertise in numerical analysis and design qualification of nuclear components using finite element analysis or classical closed-form solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform detailed structural analysis, transient thermal analysis, and heat-transfer analysis to ensure the integrity of nuclear components.
  • Provide input and support to Project Engineering, including preparation of calculations and reports to qualify the final design.
  • Evaluate non-conformances and demonstrate acceptance to the criteria of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the Customer's specification.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or civil engineering with a strong background in solid mechanics and/or fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
  • Experience with finite element analysis using general-purpose FE codes such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, and numerical packages like MathCAD or Matlab.
  • Knowledge of nuclear plant functions and ASME BPV Code would be an asset.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in a team environment, and excellent communication skills.

  • A competitive salary range of $86,000 - $132,000 per year, based on local job market factors and specific job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
