**The Role:**

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Education Assistant to join our team at Duncan Cran Elementary School. As an Education Assistant, you will work closely with classroom teachers and District personnel to provide support to students with diverse educational and emotional needs.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, maintaining a calm demeanor in challenging situations and developing positive relationships with students. They will also demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when faced with new or unexpected situations.

Responsibilities will include providing instructional support to students, implementing educational programs, and supervising students during activities such as gym class, school trips, and bus loading/unloading. The Education Assistant will also be responsible for assisting with daily tasks such as copying, filing, and record-keeping.

**Key Responsibilities:*

  • Provides instructional support to students to implement educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator.
  • Supervises students during activities such as gym class, school trips, and bus loading/unloading.
  • Assists with daily tasks such as copying, filing, and record-keeping.
  • Constructs/locates instructional materials, games, displays, and learning centers.

**Requirements and Qualifications:**

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Grade 12 or equivalency education.
  • A current CPI status and willingness to maintain it.
  • An Education Assistant Certificate, which includes documented training in areas such as pervasive developmental disorders, developmental and sensory needs, personal care, technology-assisted programs, behavior support, and learning challenges.
  • Formal POPARD training or experience.
  • Proven ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with students.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible/adaptable when faced with new or challenging situations.
  • Physical ability to keep up with an active child.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities.
  • WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District.
