Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Highway Engineering Assistant. This is a temporary position that will provide opportunities for professional growth and development in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of highway construction projects, including surveying, material testing, and checking.
  • Perform elementary technical work, adhering to Department standards, specifications, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Highway Project Technologist and Highway Construction Technician to ensure project success.
  • Develop and maintain strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve project goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Must be able to wear basic Personal Protective Equipment (minimum hard hat, safety vest, steel-toed shoes).
  • Must have the ability to travel to worksites within the province by ground or air transportation, with possible overnight accommodations in hotels/motels.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, weekends, and statutory holidays, subject to call-outs and working under adverse weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software package.
  • Knowledge of department construction procedures and guidelines as it relates to this position.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in an outdoor environment with exposure to various hazards, including road construction equipment, roadway traffic, and inclement weather.
