As Assistant General Counsel, Global Subsidiary Governance Office, you'll be responsible for establishing strategic direction for the legal governance of over 200 RBC subsidiaries operating in more than 30 jurisdictions.
This role requires exceptional leadership skills, as you'll drive a consistent approach to subsidiary board governance, ensuring central oversight with local accountability. You'll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, each with different perspectives and objectives.
A key responsibility will be leading the Subsidiary Governance Office, overseeing approximately 20 lawyers, corporate secretaries, law clerks, and paralegals across nine jurisdictions. You'll also provide critical guidance to enterprise senior management and members of the Legal Affairs & Compliance team on various corporate, governance, and financial services regulatory matters.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A LLB or JD degree, called to the Bar of a Canadian province, membership in an applicable law society or bar association, or equivalent from another jurisdiction.
- Ideal experience: at least 12 to 15 years of relevant experience gained in private practice or in-house roles, with a focus on corporate governance, corporate law, and regulatory.
- An experienced manager with a track record for leading change and building successful teams.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and ability to impact and influence through consultation and business rationale.
