**Job Summary**

The Pipelayer Helper is a critical member of our team at Volker Stevin Contracting, responsible for providing physical labor support to pipelayers during all phases of construction. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Load, unload, and move construction materials around the worksite, ensuring efficient workflow and minimizing delays.
  • Manually remove large rocks and debris turned up by heavy equipment, maintaining a safe and clear work environment.
  • Flag traffic when necessary, adhering to traffic control protocols and ensuring the safety of workers and the public.
  • Understand, interpret, and follow directions from supervisors regarding the required work area, demonstrating a strong understanding of construction procedures.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials, promoting a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Using a rake or shovel, spread gravel and other construction materials for padding, setting structures, or other utilities and piping, ensuring accurate and precise placement.
  • Shovel around live utilities to expose them without damaging them, demonstrating a high level of care and attention to detail.
  • Operate equipment, such as pneumatic hammers, vibrators, tampers, and packers, as required, adhering to safety protocols and manufacturer instructions.
  • Ensure the worksite is organized and free of clutter, rubble, and garbage, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

**Requirements**

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean Driver's Abstract (as per Company policy), preferred.
  • Physically fit and able to repetitively lift and carry at least 40 lbs. on a regular basis, demonstrating a high level of physical stamina.
