About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Compliance Advisor to join our team at RONA Inc. As a key member of our Asset Protection department, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and maintenance of our hazardous materials and environmental compliance program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Management: Develop, enhance, and implement hazardous materials and environmental compliance programs to ensure regulatory compliance and resolve related issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with provincial and federal level hazardous materials and environmental compliance regulations, and ensure our company is in compliance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with various teams, including Asset Protection & Safety, Legal, Merchandising, Facilities, Engineering & Construction, Real Estate, Quality Assurance, Public Relations, Supply Chain, and Store Communications, to address issues and ensure company compliance.
  • Hazardous Waste Management: Manage hazardous waste disposal programs for all store, supply chain, and corporate locations, and ensure program compliance.
  • Vendor Management: Work with hazardous waste disposal vendors to manage programs, resolve service issues, and develop compliance reporting metrics.
  • HAZMAT Classification: Work directly with HAZMAT classification vendors to properly classify and manage all RONA's HAZMAT items, and develop classification system processes.
  • Support and Guidance: Provide hazardous materials program support and guidance to all store and supply chain locations, and assist with researching issues of non-compliance, violations, and/or citations.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Review and monitor hazardous waste generation rates for all store and supply chain locations to confirm compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent environmental compliance, hazardous waste management, or relevant studies.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years' experience in a position involving health and safety, environmental compliance, or hazardous waste.
  • Skills: Proven communication skills, both oral and written, confidence speaking in front of a group, ability to demonstrate leadership, resourcefulness, and initiative.
