Job Summary:

At Extendicare Van Daele, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Recreation Therapist to join our team. As a Recreation Therapist, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs for our residents, ensuring a safe and healthy environment that promotes their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized and group recreation programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of residents' abilities and interests to create tailored programs that promote engagement and participation.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other team members to ensure seamless care and support for residents.
  • Monitor and report any changes in residents' behavior or condition to the Supervisor and nursing staff as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of program participation and resident feedback to inform future program development.

Requirements:

  • Proof of successful completion of an approved Recreation and Leisure Services/Gerontology Diploma or Degree program from a post-secondary institution.
  • Experience working with older adults, preferably in a healthcare or similar setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and families.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities and situations.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and willingness to learn new tasks and skills.
