We are seeking a highly qualified Sessional Lecturer to teach a course on Global Biogeochemical Cycles in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Toronto.

Course Information:

Course Number and Title: ESS363H1S - Global Biogeochemical Cycles

Course Description: This course explores the exchange of energy and matter between the Earth's atmosphere, ocean, biosphere, and geosphere. Topics include global biogeochemical cycling of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous, silicon, iron, and zinc, with a focus on terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The course will cover both contemporary and paleo-perspectives, as well as potential future global change scenarios.

Estimated Course Enrollment: 30

Estimated TA Support: 50

Class Schedule: Lectures will be held on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm, from January 8 to April 5, 2025.

Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 1, 2025 to April 30, 2025

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering lectures, planning labs, developing and administering grading, course assignments, tests, and exams, supervising TAs if any, and providing scheduled office hours for academic counseling of students.

Requirements:

A Ph.D. in Earth Sciences or a closely related field is required. In exceptional cases, a M.Sc. may be accepted. Experience teaching geosciences at the university level will be an asset.
