Job Title: Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Island Health is seeking a part-time Psychiatrist to provide Child and Adolescent services in the community of Duncan. The successful candidate will provide support to the Y Star child and youth crisis team and Discovery substance use services in Cowichan. The patient population consists of mostly teenagers and all are affected by substance use and have concurrent mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide indirect support to the clinical team, arrange for direct consultation, and provide a management plan.
  • Liaise with the clinical team to triage patients and provide follow-up care as needed.
  • Use pharmacology, psychotherapy, education, and motivational interviewing as modes of intervention.
  • Understand cultural influences specifically in the indigenous population.

  • May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA).

  • General/Adult Psychiatrists with demonstrated interest in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
