Role Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in our Visualization R&D Team, working closely with all members of the Verathon Research and Development team. This position involves designing and developing electrical and hardware systems for our airway management medical devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop digital and analog circuits, including schematic entry and PCB layout, for class-leading medical devices.
- Create test fixtures for product validation and verification.
- Analyze and debug complex electrical systems.
- Conduct acceptance and certification tests based on FCC, IEC, FDA, and electrical safety regulations.
- Lead technical activities within cross-functional teams.
- Define system requirements, architect system design, and explore new technologies.
- Promote Verathon as an electrical subject matter expert with contractor and vendor communications.
- Mentor junior engineers and co-ops.
- Solve production issues efficiently and effectively.
- Create detailed design documentation, including BOMs, test reports, assembly instructions, and system specifications.
- Participate in design reviews, product transfer to production, and ECO procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- 8+ years of demonstrated relevant experience.
- P.Eng from the EGBC preferred; ability and willingness to obtain a P.Eng license required.
- Proficiency in multiple facets of electrical engineering, including circuit design, schematic entry, PCB design, component analysis/selection, EMC/regulatory, programmable devices, board bring-up, and debug.
- Experience with system architecture design and implementation of new technologies.
- Strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles for EM energy, signal integrity, and signal transmission lines.
- Solid understanding of communication protocols/techniques, such as I2C, SPI, LVDS, and MIPI.
- Experience with VHDL/Verilog and design of systems based on FPGA and MPSOC devices.
- Ability to perform design analysis using DFMEA, FTA, or other recognized techniques.
- Expert-level experience with lab instruments, such as oscilloscopes, DMM, and spectrum analyzers.
- Skilled in PCB rework and soldering small SMT components.
- Familiarity with FDA, IEC, ISO, and IPC regulations or standards.
- Capacity to work independently, make technical decisions, and prioritize tasks on multiple programs.
