Job Title: Environmental Compliance Specialist

Claystone Waste Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team in Alberta. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring our waste management operations meet all local, provincial, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Oversee and manage all aspects of regulatory compliance, including local, provincial, and federal regulations related to waste management and environmental protection.
  • Lead Site Inspections and Audits: Coordinate and lead annual compliance internal audits, manage external audits, and conduct regular inspections of CWL facilities to identify and mitigate potential compliance issues.
  • Maintain Accurate Records and Reporting: Ensure accurate documentation of operations, environmental incidents, and compliance data. Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies on time.
  • Provide Training and Guidance: Offer training and guidance to staff on compliance-related matters, including waste tracking, environmental legislation, and protection measures.
  • Manage Environmental Incidents: Lead the response to environmental incidents such as spills, ensuring that corrective actions are promptly implemented and reported.
  • Act as a Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities, handling approvals, coordinating inspections, and overseeing responses to compliance issues.
  • Develop and Implement Policies: Craft and implement policies that support compliance and reduce environmental risks in CWL's operations, from landfill management to waste collection.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Constantly seek ways to enhance compliance efforts, reduce environmental impacts, and adopt new technologies or practices to benefit CWL's operations.
Requirements:
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Relevant post-secondary education with substantial experience will also be considered.
  • Experience: A minimum of 7-10 years in a compliance role, preferably within the environmental or waste management sector.
  • Strong Understanding of Regulations: In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, particularly those related to waste management in Alberta.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and mentor teams, manage projects, and work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills, with the ability to produce accurate, timely work products.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to interact professionally with various levels of staff, regulatory officials, and the public, with a strong focus on diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Technical Proficiency: Competence in using computer systems, including spreadsheets, databases, and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to quickly adapt to new systems and procedures.
