Pathologist Assistant Role Overview


We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our dynamic team in Histopathology at North York General Hospital (NYGH).



About the Role

This is a Full-Time Temporary position with 8 hour shifts, day and evening shifts in Histopathology. As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will be responsible for performing independently or as a team member with a high degree of motivation and judgment.


You will have great skills and abilities in examining, describing, dissecting, and photographing small and complex large surgical specimens of all tissue types. You will be computer proficient and have strong knowledge of medical terminology.


You will also have proven written and oral communication and strong interpersonal skills, displaying a high degree of professionalism.


Your goal in this position is to work under pressure and maintain a high level of productivity and competence while supporting the hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation.



Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with or perform neonatal autopsies under pathologists' supervision
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities
  • Perform teaching duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology or equivalent (MLT with Advance training or Master Science program)
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified
  • Experience using 'voice recognition' system an asset
  • Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA) an asset
  • Working experience as histo-techologist is considered an asset
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset


Compensation Package

We offer a highly competitive total compensation package that includes benefits, pension, and vacation.


The estimated salary range for this role is $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
