About the Role

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office at SAIT is dedicated to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for students and employees. We are seeking an experienced EDI Specialist to join our team and contribute to the implementation of our EDI Strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Education and Training
    • Develop and deliver workshops and training programs that align with SAIT's EDI objectives and deliverables.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to design and facilitate educational opportunities for adult learners.
  • Working Groups and Subcommittees
    • Lead employee resource groups, strategic working groups, and subcommittees related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
    • Apply specialized expertise to support departments and units in integrating EDI principles into their work.
  • Strategy and Relationships
    • Develop annual strategic plans and define key performance indicators and metrics in collaboration with the Director, EDI.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of SAIT's EDI Strategy.
    • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance EDI initiatives.
  • Communications
    • Research and develop recommendations for policies, procedures, and best practices related to EDI in higher education.
    • Collaborate with the communications department to create key messaging for content and awareness campaigns.
    • Provide subject matter expertise to respond to frontline questions and inquiries.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum
    • University degree or equivalent in an EDI-related discipline.
    • 3-5 years of experience working in anti-racism, Indigenization, employment equity, accessibility, human rights, or other equity, diversity, and inclusion fields.
  • Preferred
    • Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional.
    • Prosci Change Practitioner certification.
    • Experience building strategy and relationships with internal stakeholders and external community partners.
    • Strong knowledge of intersecting identities and experience guiding others along their personal EDI journeys.
    • Experience designing and facilitating educational opportunities for adult learners.
    • Lived experience of inequity and discrimination as a member of an equity-deserving group.
    • Strong knowledge of EDI principles, frameworks, and best practices in higher education.
  • Skills Required
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to set sub-goals and timelines.
    • Ability to hold space for those who have been impacted by inequities and those who want to learn more about equity, diversity, and inclusion.
    • Experience working in complex organizations or on complex projects, preferably in higher education, that require the ability to navigate large systems when implementing change.
    • Ability to think critically, demonstrate tact and diplomacy, and work independently.
