About the Role

The Virgin Islands Water & Power Authority seeks an experienced Accounting Supervisor to lead our accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the work of accountants and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reports.

We are looking for a highly skilled professional with excellent leadership abilities and a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Supervision: Supervise the activities of Accountants I and II, providing guidance and support as needed to ensure the successful completion of tasks and projects.
  2. Financial Reporting: Prepare and present standard financial reports, including budgets, variance analyses, and other relevant data, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies.
  3. Operational Oversight: Develop, implement, and maintain effective accounting systems and controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  4. Performance Management: Evaluate employee performance, provide feedback, and make recommendations for improving and upgrading skills.
  5. Personnel Management: Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  1. Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
  2. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in applying accounting theory and principles to a wide variety of transactions, including budget preparation.
  3. Skills and Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of accounting theory, practices, and procedures; sound knowledge of accounting systems and control; ability to apply accounting theory and principles to a wide variety of transactions; and proficiency in PC and different software applications, including spreadsheets and Excel.
