Job Title: Urban Planner - Land Use Specialist

About the Job

We are seeking an experienced Urban Planner to join our team at the City of Summerside. The successful candidate will be responsible for compiling and analyzing data on factors affecting land use, designing different land concepts, and recommending plans for zoning, subdivisions, transportation, public utilities, community facilities, parks, agricultural and other land uses.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of urban planning principles and practices, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile and analyze data on factors affecting land use, including demographic trends, economic indicators, and environmental concerns.
  • Design different land concepts, taking into account local policies, regulations, and community needs.
  • Recommend plans for zoning, subdivisions, transportation, public utilities, community facilities, parks, agricultural and other land uses.
  • Supervise and co-ordinate work of urban planning technicians and technologists.
  • Confer with appropriate authorities and interest groups to formulate and develop land use or community plans.
  • Prepare plans for environmental protection.
  • Presents plans to civic, rural and regional authorities and hold public meetings.
  • Review and evaluate proposals for land use and development plans and prepare recommendations.
  • Process application for land development permits.
  • Administer land use plans and zoning by-laws.
  • Formulate long-range objectives and policies relative to future land use and the protection of the environment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in urban planning, preferably in a municipal government setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of urban planning principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
Compensation:

The estimated salary for this position is $85,000-$110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including dental plan, disability benefits, health care plan, paramedical services coverage, and vision care benefits.
