Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Terminal Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations and administration of our marine terminals. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our terminals, while maintaining a high level of customer service and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Terminal Operations
- Implement and maintain corporate safety and risk assessment processes/initiatives
- Ensure safe practices in terminal operations and a safe working environment for all terminal staff
- Verify that all staff is properly trained
- Work with Supervisors to ensure daily adherence to all relevant practices and policies
- Ensure vehicles are checked for dangerous goods, oversize and weight restrictions, advise vessels and complete documentation
- Review financial and other performance reports, plan and monitor watch labor and non-labor expenditures
- Approve overtime and prepare reports, including watch/terminal month end variance and quarterly financial reports
- Coordinate revenue processes, including ensuring security and deposit of revenue
- Ensure terminal facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained and cleaned to a high standard
- Conduct rounds of the terminal, identify unusual activity, security breaches, unsafe conditions, and report/rectify as necessary
- Participate in joint site safety committee meetings as a management representative
- Coordinate the terminal response in the event of an emergency
- Manage and monitor absenteeism, performance, workplace and customer injuries
- Ensure a high level of environmental standards
- Customer Service
- Be fully versed in the company's Customer Service Enhancement program
- Ensure staff maintain positive customer relations to build loyalty
- Enforce the employee dress code and ensure a high standard of cleanliness of terminal facilities
- Promptly respond to customer concerns and take appropriate action on suggestions to improve service
- Human Resources/Employee Relations
- Assist in hiring terminal staff in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures
- Establish clear performance plans for each subordinate, regularly evaluate and document performance
- Apply the provisions of the collective agreement and act in accordance with delegated authorities on matters of discipline
- Promote effective teamwork through timely and effective communication in matters relevant to employees
- Work with crewing on schedules and workforce needs
- Daily Administration
- Oversee, audit, and issue directives to correct substandard conditions or work practices
- Oversee and authorize work orders for maintenance and repairs to terminal assets
- Facilitate business relationships with contractors involved in supplying services to the terminals
Requirements
We are looking for a candidate with a Post-Secondary diploma in business administration (or related field) or a suitable combination of education and experience. A minimum of three years' experience managing a passenger transportation terminal, preferably marine transport, and demonstrated experience in creating and managing large operating and capital budgets is required. Additionally, experience in implementing strategic initiatives and leading both unionized and non-unionized employees is an asset.
