The District of Saanich is seeking a highly skilled Sustainable Energy Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Municipal Facilities Division, you will be responsible for formulating, implementing, and managing corporate and community-wide energy policies, projects, and programs that promote long-term sustainability and achieve our greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets.
Key Responsibilities- Provide research, analysis, technical expertise, advice, and guidance to Council, senior staff, Municipal departments, community groups, and the public on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and greenhouse gas reduction strategies.
- Coordinate contractors/consultants and related budgets, and successfully implement energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, with a focus on high-performance buildings.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including community groups, industry partners, and government agencies.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in energy management and sustainability.
- Bachelor's degree in sustainability, planning, engineering, resource management, or a related field.
- Graduate degree in business, planning, engineering, public policy, sustainability, resource management, or a related business field; or Energy Management Certification such as Certified Energy Manager designation or similar certification.
- At least six years of relevant experience in planning and implementing energy management, renewable energy, and/or sustainability projects and initiatives.
- Professional knowledge and diverse experience in project management, supervision of contractors/consultants, preparing and managing project budgets, public engagement, policy development, and securing grant funding.
- Working knowledge of green building certifications and demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams in the delivery of multiple projects simultaneously.
