We are looking for a skilled Project Engineer to join our team at Dexter Construction Company Limited. As a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the planning, executing, and delivery of projects.

About the Role

You will be responsible for supporting team leads in the preparation of schedules, managing subcontractors, and ensuring that projects are completed safely and on time. You will also be responsible for coordinating site activities, assisting in tasks, and developing job-specific work packs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination
    • Coordinate project activities and ensure that they are completed on time and within budget.
    • Assist in the preparation of project reports and updates.
  • Subcontractor Management
    • Manage subcontractor relationships and ensure compliance with company policies.
    • Coordinate subcontractor activities and ensure that they are aware of project requirements.
  • Quality Control
    • Monitor project quality and ensure that it meets company standards.
    • Identify and report any quality issues or concerns.
  • Safety
    • Ensure that all projects are conducted in a safe and responsible manner.
    • Monitor and report any safety issues or concerns.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Civil/Mining Engineering or other discipline with appropriate work experience.
  • Experience in Heavy Civil Construction, drilling, geotechnical, etc., would be considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • AutoCAD experience would be considered an asset.
  • Familiar with PowerApps to initiate material and equipment movement between jobs.
  • Ability to work as part of a construction team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional attitude, punctual, assertive and personable.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Maritimes to support various projects.

Working Conditions

The Project Engineer will be required to perform a balance of office and field work. Field work and company site visits will require the use of minimum PPE (Hardhat, Steel Toe Boots, reflective vest, etc.). Other PPE might also be necessary and will be driven by the environment of the work sites (specialized PPE, Gas monitors, Fall Arrest and Breathing Apparatus). Other travel on behalf of the company may be necessary to represent the Company or Project.
