The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Leader Development Specialist to join our team at IWK Health. As a key member of our Children's Medical Ambulatory Care Services team, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing educational activities to foster the development of competencies in interdisciplinary staff. You will also participate in the development of Children's Health ambulatory care staff through coaching and mentorship, sharing knowledge and resources, and providing feedback.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing orientation to new staff members and preceptors, including roles and responsibilities
  • Acting as a resource to preceptors for ongoing preceptor development
  • Coordinating learner placements for nursing practice
  • Acting as a clinical resource related to patient care, continuing education, development, and review of policies, objectives, and guidelines
  • Planning educational programs to meet identified learning needs, in collaboration with the Professional Development Consultant
  • Acting as a liaison among healthcare team members to identify trends in patient care
  • Acting as a liaison with other IWK CLDs/Rehab Coordinators to initiate and facilitate program and centre-wide initiatives, including accreditation
  • Using knowledge of theories of human communication and interpersonal relationships to facilitate communication among staff
  • Providing leadership in the delivery of evidence-based care and facilitating the integration of research into meeting established patient care standards, guidelines, and protocols
  • Seizing informal and formal learning opportunities to educate colleagues and
  • Supporting care area-based strategic plans and initiatives

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, registered or eligible to be registered with CRNNS, and at least five years of clinical experience in Pediatric Nursing Care. A Master's Degree is considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have two years of clinical experience in Pediatric Ambulatory Care and two years of clinical experience as a CLD. Current CPR Level C Health Care Provider certification within the last 12 months is required. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, leadership skills, and experience in providing constructive feedback are essential. The ability to be non-judgmental, facilitate change, and demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures as they pertain to Children's Ambulatory Medical, Surgical, and Rehabilitative Care populations is also required. Proactive and self-directed with excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills, as well as superior communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills, are necessary. A commitment to ongoing professional development and the ability to create an environment where ongoing learning and development are promoted and supported are also essential. Instructor-level registration in appropriate life support courses is an asset, and competencies in other languages are considered an asset.

Hours of Work

7.5h weekday shifts. Flexibility required.

Your Qualifications


• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Candidates with commensurate experience and education will be considered.

• Registered, or eligible to be registered, with CRNNS required.

• Master's Degree is considered an asset.

• Five years of clinical experience in Pediatric Nursing Care is required.

• Two years of clinical experience in Pediatric Ambulatory Care required.

• Two years of clinical experience as a CLD preferred.

• Current CPR Level C Health Care Provider within the last 12 months required

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams required.

• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in providing constructive feedback required.

• Demonstrated ability to be non-judgmental, with the ability to facilitate change required.

• Demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedures as they pertain to Children's Ambulatory Medical, Surgical, and Rehabilitative Care populations required.

• Demonstrated ability to be proactive and self-directed with excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving skills required.

• Demonstrated superior communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills required.

• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to create an environment where ongoing learning and development are promoted and supported.

• Instructor-level registration in appropriate life support courses (e.g. BCLS) is an asset.

• Competencies in other languages are considered an asset.
