The Role

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will assist in the development and implementation of content strategies to expand the Athletics & Recreation department's digital reach and awareness. This role encompasses three key areas: content creation, social media and analytics, and web & graphic design. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that contributes to the student experience at Douglas College.

Responsibilities

**Content Creation Portfolio**
- Assist in writing press releases, news articles, player features, game recaps, and other content for web and print media.
- Assist in writing and producing unique and relevant video content that promotes Athletics, Recreation, and the Sports Institute.
- Develop and implement an editorial calendar for all department content.

**Social Media and Analytics Portfolio**
- Assist in creating and executing timely messaging and communications for the department's social media channels.
- Develop and implement marketing and promotional strategies to grow the department's digital following.
- Create digital content that is interesting and relevant for the audience and satisfies key departmental objectives.
- Gather analytical data to drive decision making in content strategy development.

**Web and Graphic Design Portfolio**
- Assist in developing an 'on brand' look and feel for designed communications.
- Create design assets and artwork, including brochures, posters, web images, social media images, logos, and newspaper ads.
- Regularly update the department's websites with new content produced internally and from external news outlets.
- Gather analytical data to drive decision making in site structure, information hierarchy, and content effectiveness.
- Produce print-ready files according to printer requirements.

To Be Successful in this Role
- Be passionate and open to learning and feedback.
- Understand content strategies, tools, channels, and trends.
- Have experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) to produce web-ready content.
- Be a self-starter who can balance creative direction and independent judgment to produce quality content within deadlines.
- Have an understanding of sports or a sports background is preferred.
- Video production skills and portfolio examples are considered assets.

Eligibility Criteria

Domestic Students
The domestic student must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant.
- Enrolled in and maintain a minimum of one or more 3-credit courses at Douglas College throughout the work term.
- Enrolled in and maintained a minimum of one or more 3-credit courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and intends to enroll in the term immediately following the work term.
- Enrolled in and maintain a minimum of two or more 3-credit courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term.
- Enrolled in and maintained a minimum of two or more 3-credit courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and intends to enroll in the term immediately following the work term.

International Students
The international student must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant.
- Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
- An international student not enrolled at Douglas College but at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit and proof of enrollment in full-time studies required
