Job Summary:

The County of Essex is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corporate Legal Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Legal Services Division, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal advice and representation to our departments and County Council.

About the Role:
  • We are looking for an exceptional lawyer with a minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law, preferably in municipal or public sector law, insurance defence, employment and labour law, administrative law, land use planning, expropriations, real estate, and corporate law.
Main Responsibilities:
  1. Legal Advice and Representation: Provide timely and effective legal advice on various matters to our departments and County Council, including contract drafting, review, and negotiation.
  2. Divisional Leadership: Participate in budgeting and strategic planning for the Legal Services Division, ensuring the smooth operation of our division.
  3. Council Matters: Support the development of by-laws and attend County Council meetings to provide legal guidance.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an accredited Canadian law school, or an equivalent foreign legal degree with NCA assessments.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
What We Offer:

A competitive salary range of $120,000 - $160,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits and opportunities for professional growth.
