Commercial Lines Underwriting Specialist

We're seeking a seasoned Senior Underwriter to join our growing team at Intact Financial Corporation.
This pivotal role is responsible for assessing and evaluating moderate to complex risks, analyzing requests for quotes, renewals, and policy changes. You'll recommend innovative solutions and work closely with brokers, reinsurers, and colleagues to develop and maintain positive business partnerships.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions, as well as excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong negotiating skills and business acumen are also essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities- Develop long-term relationships with brokers by providing exceptional service and participating in broker visits, field underwriting, insurance industry functions, and marketing events.
- Assess and evaluate moderate to complex risks, analyzing requests for quotes, renewals, and policy changes and recommend innovative solutions.
- Cultivate expert knowledge of Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions to inform decision-making.
- Foster strong partnerships with brokers, reinsurers, and colleagues to drive business growth and development.
- Apply effective pricing and underwriting strategies in accordance with Company guidelines and personal underwriting authority limits.
- Post-secondary education or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in underwriting or a related field.
- Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex risks.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a focus on building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
