Nature Kindergarten Early Childhood Educator Opportunity

School District No. 62 (Sooke) is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Educator to join our Nature Kindergarten program. This on-call position requires flexibility and a passion for outdoor education.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Kindergarten teacher and program development team to design and implement engaging outdoor learning experiences.
  • Provide high-quality early childhood education in a nature-based setting, promoting environmental stewardship and exploration.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, community partners, and academic researchers to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive program.
  • Problem-solve and address unforeseen circumstances while outdoors, ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in outdoor education and early childhood development.
Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade 12 graduation and Diploma, and a valid Early Childhood Educator License to Practice.
  • Ability to work under the direction of the Administrator and collaboratively with school district and community partners.
  • Knowledge of child development and the Early Learning Framework.
  • Successful experience in a variety of Early Childhood Education settings, working with diverse populations.
  • Training and experience in outdoor education with younger children.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good organization and planning skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, as well as historic and present issues facing Aboriginal communities.
  • Current First Aid training and certification, and experience mitigating risks for young children in an outdoor environment.
