About This Role

We are seeking a skilled Culinary Specialist to join our team at Simcoe County. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all meals and nourishments are prepared and served in a safe, appropriate manner.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will have a strong practicing knowledge of culinary practices, preferably within a Long Term care setting. They will be responsible for supervising Dietary Aides in the performance of their duties and assuming responsibility for the efficient operation of the dietary department in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist the Dietary Supervisor in ensuring that the requirements of the Long Term Care Homes Act 2007 and other appropriate legislation are implemented in the dietary department.
- Ensure that established policies, procedures, and work assignments are followed and provide direction to Dietary Aides accordingly.
- Prepare special diets and ensure that they are provided as required.
- Undertake inventory of food and supplies as directed by Dietary Supervisor.
- Assist in the maintenance of optimal safety standards to ensure the safety of residents and other staff.
- Participate in and demonstrate an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into all day-to-day activities.

Requirements

- Strong practicing knowledge of culinary practices, preferably within a Long Term care setting.
- Minimum two (2) years previous cooking experience, preferably in a long-term care home, or retirement, hospital, or institutional setting.
- Experience with preparation of cooking a variety of food in large quantities.
- Current proof of Safety Handlers Certificate, or proof of enrolment and successful completion within the first 3 months of hire.

Benefits and Compensation

This is a full-time position, offering a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, pension plan, and paid time off.
