Job Overview

The Government of Alberta is seeking a Wildlife Recovery Biologist to support the recovery of at-risk species in our province. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in conducting population assessments, implementing recovery actions, and analyzing wildlife data.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in wildlife management, ecology, or a related field. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of experience in fieldwork and data analysis, including experience with wildlife telemetry and geospatial analysis. Proficiency in R and other statistical software is an asset.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field operations such as collaring, surveys, and mortality investigations for Woodland Caribou and Wood Bison.
  • Analyze and model wildlife population data using modern statistical methods.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous communities, environmental organizations, and government agencies to foster recovery efforts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in wildlife management, including fieldwork and data analysis.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license or equivalent.
  • Willingness to fly in small aircraft.
Compensation

The estimated salary for this position is $75,610 - $97,655 per year, paid bi-weekly at $2,896.60. We offer a competitive benefits package and opportunities for professional growth and development.
