Job SummaryThe Financial and Budget Officer will play a key role in leading the financial operations of the Dunin-Deshpande Queen's Innovation Centre. This includes budgeting, forecasting, reporting, processing, and fundraising. The successful candidate will have a strong background in financial management and a proven track record of budget administration.
Key Responsibilities:- Administer the financial operations, budgeting, and reporting processes for the DDQIC, including processing financial transactions, preparing account reconciliations, and monitoring cash flows and expenditures.
- Prepare and monitor multi-year budgets for the university, making recommendations to senior leadership and participating in financial planning.
- Perform financial modelling and forecasting to inform decision making and support senior staff on development decisions.
- Oversee the review and implementation of financial processes for DDQIC and contribute to training materials.
- Monitor, manage, and perform analysis of trust and endowment funds, including annual reporting.
- Provide orientation and on-the-job training to employees in the unit on program budgets and financial tasks.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports for submission, including quarterly variance reports and donor reports.
- Oversee the seed funding disbursement process for all ventures and ensure compliance.
- Prepare journal entries for fund disbursement under the direction of the Executive Director.
- Forge relationships with granting agencies and coordinate writing new grant and fundraising applications.
- University degree in financial management, accounting, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of credentials and several years of work experience in a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of related financial or budget administration experience, preferably in a large and/or complex organizational setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in financial and accounting practices and proven budget management skills.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with an ability to discuss financial information clearly.
