About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk Management Specialist to join our team at CAPREIT Apartments. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting business functions in identifying and documenting their key risks, mitigations, opportunities, and key risk indicators. This is a fantastic opportunity to build a risk-focused culture within the organization and contribute to the development of the enterprise risk management program.

Main Responsibilities:
- Assist business functions in measuring and assessing key risks on both an inherent and residual basis
- Update enterprise-wide risk registers regularly
- Assist in establishing an enterprise-wide risk appetite for the organization and work with senior managers and business teams to develop policies, procedures and controls that align with this appetite
- Help build a risk-focused culture throughout the organization
- Work with the training and communications teams to promote risk awareness, ownership and accountability across the organization;
- Support the development of the emergency response program and roll out of table top scenarios;
- Monitor emerging enterprise-wide and industry risks, as well as latest trends in risk management
- Work with Internal Audit to develop annual evaluation plans to assess operating effectiveness of the risk mitigation measures and controls;
- Champion initiatives to enhance the quality and value of the Enterprise Risk Management function, including benchmarking, external research, industry events, thought leadership, relationship building, training & competency development;
- Create highly visual, creative, stakeholder-focused deliverables and presentations for the business teams, senior management and the Board of Trustees;

Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in risk and compliance preferably real estate
- Highly developed negotiation skills with a strong ability to manage a variety of needs and build strong stakeholder relationships/partnerships
- Strong work ethic and integrity
- Project management capabilities, especially with initiatives in their infancy
- Solid experience in maintaining ERM and or audit programs
- Inquisitive mindset
- Passion and desire to build programs that will have an impact on the business
- Mastery of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Critical thinking, diplomacy and influencing skills
- Ability to be flexible in rapidly evolving situations and fast-paced environments.
