The Ward Clerk performs a variety of clerical functions and tasks as required on an inpatient unit. This includes receiving and routing telephone calls, greeting and directing visitors, providing routine information, and responding to inquiries from clients, visitors, and staff.
Key responsibilities include maintaining and distributing nursing forms, preparing photocopies and facsimiles, operating office equipment, and establishing, maintaining, processing, and updating files, records, and other documents. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for monitoring fire alarm and security systems, arranging transportation, and ensuring client safety by following standard operational procedures and safe work practices.
Additionally, the successful candidate will collaborate with Nova Scotia Health to accurately record admissions, discharges, and deaths, perform clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfers, and death, and assemble and prepare patient charts and forms.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a graduate degree in office administration or secretarial science, and at least five years of related experience. They will also have a strong understanding of medical terminology, typing skills, and proficiency in general office procedures and equipment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and operate personal computers is essential.
