Responsibilities- Create a class environment and rapport that inspires and supports learning and personal growth, using a lens of social-emotional learning.
- Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education, in accordance with each student's ability and needs.
- Establish positive relationships with parents, faculty, and other staff members.
- Ensure the written, taught, and assessed curriculum is in line with IB PYP and Ministry of Education curriculum, ensuring differentiation.
- Develop a program of inquiry, unit plans, and lesson plans, ensuring integration of all aspects of the IB PYP curriculum, with a focus on SEL, DEI, and inquiry-based learning.
- Update all necessary records accurately as required by the Ministry, IBO, and school guidelines.
- Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress, including formally through report cards and parent-teacher meetings.
- Keep up-to-date and incorporate best practices in subject area(s) and approaches to teaching and learning through professional reading, participating in workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
- Participate actively in faculty and department/division meetings and meet regularly with teams to plan, review, and update the written curriculum.
- Assume responsibility for and participate in co-curricular activities.
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent degree with P/J qualifications.
- Three years of experience as a classroom teacher is an asset.
- Experience in and knowledge of the IB, specifically the PYP, is a strong asset.
- Strong curriculum development skills and assessment practices that incorporate strategies relevant to the age and stage assessment practices.
- A relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching strategies in their practice.
- Knowledge of relevant technology and able to work in a laptop and online environment.
- Adept at delivering education programs electronically and ability to use electronic communication to correspond with students, parents, colleagues, and the community at large.
- Belief in and alignment with Branksome Hall's mission, vision, and values.
- Ability to work both independently as well as be a collaborative team member.
- Experience with the PYP Exhibition is preferred.
